  Report of the 2017 FIMSA Advanced Course

  2017 FIMSA Advanced Course was held during 26-27 April, 2017, in Beijing, China. It is the 14th time since the FIMSA Advanced Course was designed and initiated in the year of 1994. This meeting was hosted by Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania (FIMSA) and Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI), co-sponsored by National Key Laboratory of Medical Immunology.13 distinguished speakers were invited to give lectures to the audience, they are:Vice-President of FIMSA, Prof. Gregory Tsay from China Medical University, President of CSI, Prof. Zhigang Tian from University of Science & Technology of China, Treasure of FIMSA, Prof. Yousuke Takahama from University of Tokushima, Council Member of FIMSA, Prof. Alan Baxter from James Cook University, Council Member of FIMSA, Prof. Liwei LU from The University of Hong Kong, Vice-President of CSI, Prof. Bing Sun fromChinese Academy of Sciences, Council Member of FIMSA, Prof. Wong Siew Cheng from Singapore Immunology Network, Agency for Science, Technology and Research,Council Member of FIMSA, Prof. Laura Mackay from The University of Melbourne, Council Member of FIMSA, Prof. Kiyoshi Takeda from Osaka University, Prof. Cheng Dong from Tsinghua University, Prof. Li Wu fromTsinghua University, Prof. Bo Huang from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof. Qianjin Lu from Central South University.The topics varied from the overall introduction of the development in the field of immunology in the recent years to achievements of Chinese immunologists, especially hot topics like tumor immunology, regulation mechanism of Nature Killer cell, Dendritic cell, Macrophage, T cell and B cell, immunopharmacology, autoimmunity, sclerosis, as well as AIDS immunology.The opening ceremony was presided by Secretary-General of FIMSA, Secretary-General of CSI, Prof. Xuetao Cao from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, during which 9 young immunologists recommended by FIMSA member societies were awarded the travel award of 2017 FIMSA Advanced Course, each with 1,000 USD. Prof. Xuetao Cao, Prof. Yousuke Takahama and Prof. Zhigang Tian were presenting awards to the recipients. The list of the award recipients is: Ms. Delgertsetseg Chuluundorj from University of the Humanities, Mr. Jonathan Chee from University of Western Australia, Ms. Hui-Fern Koay from University of Melbourne, recommended by Australasian Society for Immunology; Ms. Kongyang Ma from University of Hong Kong, recommended by Hong Kong Society for Immunology; Mr. Dayasagar Das from All India Institute of Medical Sciences,recommended by Indian Immunology Society; Mr. Tae-Jin Kim from Korea University College of Medicine, recommended by The Korean Association of Immunobiologists; Ms. Kylie Yong Su Mei from A*STAR Agency for Science, Technology and Research, recommended by Singaporean Society for Immunology; Ms. JiraphornIssara-Amphorn, Mr. ChitponPadunglerkfrom Chulalongkorn University, recommended bythe Allergy and Immunology Society of Thailand.

  Attending the 13th Spring School of DGFI

  2017-04-06

  The 13th Spring School of Immunology , sponsored by German Society for Immunology (DGFI), was held on March 5-10th, 2017, at Ettal Abbey，Bavaria，Germany. The aim of the Spring school is to share the recent achievements of Immunology, and to provide opportunity for deep communication of the young immunology researchers. Two students recommended by Chinese Society for Immunology attended the school.On the first day, Prof. Michael Lohoff, the president of the 13th spring school introduced the basic information of DGFI, and Prof. Carl June from the University of Pennsylvania gave the participants a keynote speech named “Engineering T cells for cancer therapy”, to introduce some new frontier of CAR-T. In the next 5 days, 24 professors from the global world joined to the school and made brilliant speeches centered on 5 traditional and newly emerging topics: innate immunity, adaptive immunity, cutting edge: basics & perspectives, tumor/allergy/autoimmunity, and infection. Ms. Nadja Bakocevic, the associate editor of European Journal of Immunology also gave a short speech about scientific writing tips.Chinese Society for Immunology gave thanks for the long-term support and trust by the German Society for Immunology. We believe the communication, cooperation and academic exchanges between Chinese and German scientists is good for both of us, and we will keep on making unremitting efforts and positive contributions in promoting the development of immunology in the two countries.

  5th Young Immunologist Forum of CSI

  2016-12-20

  The 5th Young Immunologist Forum, sponsored by Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI), was held on December 15-16, 2016, at Institute of Basic Medical Science, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing. The aim of the forum is to provide opportunity for deep communication, to share recent achievements, to exchange new ideas and to promote scientific innovation for young immunology researchers in China. 13 winners of CSI Young Investigator Award attended this forum.Prof. Bo Huang, deputy secretary-general of CSI attended the forum and delivered a speech. 13 winners of CSI Young Investigator Award as well as other excellent young scholars attended the forum. At the opening ceremony, Prof. Huang pointed that CSI and immunology research of China developed very well, and the international influence was increasing. Next, Prof. Huang gave a wonderful plenary talk of “Cancer: New Concepts and Strategies”. After that, 8 young scholars focusing on the theme “new progress, new theory, new strategy”, shared new discoveries of their own. In the whole forum, the atmosphere of the talk and Q&A was extremely warm, and all participants got so much from the forum.

  Summer School 2016 of CSI

  2016-08-31

  Summer School 2016 of CSI was held 1-10 July, 2016 in Nursing College, Peking Union Medical College, Beijing. It’s the 5th of the series summer school of immunology. The topic of this school is “Vaccine and Anti-infection Immunotherapy”. 45 doctoral students from all regions of China and young teachers from western universities, recommended by the Executive Council members of CSI, have attended this school. They were from different universities and research institutes of 34 provinces of China, covering various immunological areas of basic research, clinic medicine and biology technique. 14 leading immunologists, including professor Zhigang Tian, President of CSI, were invited to give their remarkable lessons around the topic of immunology. As tradition, the summer school is funded by CSI, including registration fee, board and lodgings.

  5th National Doctoral Forum of CSI

  2016-08-10

  "The Fifth National Immunology Doctoral Forum" was held in the School of Life Sciences, University of Science And Technology of China (USTC) from 2 to 4 August, 2016, which was hosted by The Chinese Society for Immunology (CSI) and held by the Institute of immunology, USTC and the Key Laboratory of natural immunity and chronic diseases, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The topic of this forum is "immune homeostasis and disease mechanism. Firstly, Chairman of the CSI Pro. Zhigang Tian and deputy Secretary-general Pro. Yang Gao held the opening ceremony for the forum, Pro. Bo Huang from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Pro. Haiming Wei and Li Bai from the University of Science And Technology of China made wonderful academic reports for this forum. It was presided over by Yonggang Zhou from Institute of immunology, USTC and Da Teng from the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. This forum has six subjects, including immune cells development and differentiation, functional immune cells research, immunoregulatory mechanism, autoimmune diseases research, tumor immunity and anti-infection immunity. 30 outstanding doctoral student representatives of immunology around the China presented their own respective areas. They held a series of academic reports and launched a hot discussion. From this academic communication, all participants broadened their scope of knowledge and widened their horizon.

  5th Recent Advances Workshop of CSI

  2015-08-20

  The 5th Recent Advances Workshop was held 14-16 August, 2015 in Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou, Henan province, China. Over 400 graduate students and young immunologists attended the meeting. 27 leading immunologists were invited to give speeches on progress in immunology, including professor Nick Lemoine from British Academy of Medical Sciences, professor Xuetao Cao from Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, professor Binfeng Lu from University of Pittsburgh, USA, and Liwei Lv from Hongkong University. The topics varied from the overall introduction of the development in the field of immunology in the recent years to achievements of Chinese immunologists, especially hot topics like tumor immunology, regulation mechanism of T cell and B cell, immunopharmacology, as well as AIDS immunology. Additionally, professor Qunyan Lv from National Natural Science Foundation of China gave a speech of suggestions about how to apply projects supported by the Foundation, which was warmly received by participants. Another special talk was an introduction about CSI Symposium of AAI (American Association of Immunologists) 2015 Annual Meeting, given by experts who attended the meeting.

  4th National Doctoral Forum of CSI

  2015-08-14

  The 4th National Doctoral Forum of CSI was held 2-4 August, 2015 in School of Life Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China. The topic of this forum is immune regulation and disease mechanism. Professor Zhigang Tian, president of CSI, and professor Rongbing Zhou from University of Science and Technology of China attended this forum and gave their speeches. The forum was co-chaired by doctoral students Jiali Yu from Institute of Immunology, University of Science and Technology of China, and Ye Zhou from Institute of Immunology, Second Military Medical University. 30 doctoral students of immunology from the whole country gave their speeches and discussed warmly around topics on function regulation of immune cells, functional subsets and disease, mechanism of major diseases, tumor immunology, anti-infection immunity, regulation mechanism of immune response.

  Summer School 2015 of CSI was held 3-12 July, 2015 in Nursing College, Peking Union Medical College, Beijing. The topic of this school is tumor immunology. 54 doctoral students from all regions of China and young teachers from western universities, recommended by the Executive Council members of CSI, have attended this school. They were from different universities and research institutes of more than 20 provinces of China, covering various immunological areas of basic research, clinic medicine and biology technique. 16 leading immunologists, including professor Zhigang Tian, President of CSI, were invited to give their remarkable lessons around the topic of tumor immunology. As tradition, the summer school is funded by CSI, including registration fee, board and lodgings.
